Hot Track: Starfucker “Bury Us Alive”

Posted by: David Johnson-Igra on Jan 6, 2011 | Comments (0)

Portland-based indie pop band Starfucker shares the first single, “Bury Us Alive,” from their album Reptilians set to be released by Polyvinyl Records on March 8th. If the single is any indicator, the group’s infectious dance sound will continue to spawn unparalleled live performances that turn to raucous dance parties. The album was produced by Jacob Portrait of the Dandy Warholds, which shouldn’t hurt the dance-floor aesthetic.

Eric Andrew Kuhn and Robin Joyce Landy, the duo behind Silian Rail, grew up together in Durham, North Carolina (cute alert!) and then happened upon one another while partying in this fair city (fate alert!). What this joyous union created is a mixture of experimental indie, post-rock, free form, free jazz, “Freebird,” and freaking awesome.

Hot Track: Some Community

It started with one email yesterday, and now the pre-SXSW buzz is in full swing. The latest band vying for our attention before the madness in Austin begins this spring arrives in the form of Some Community, a Brazilian indie rock act that will sate your appetite while you wait for more new tunes from CSS. We’re loving the spunky melodica melody. If you’re looking for more, track down the band’s new RinoRino EP.

It’s down to the wire for the Holidays. Whether you still have shopping to do, or you’re getting burnt out on family drama (or just need something to block out the neighbor’s drunken Christmas carols), nothing can bring back a piece of sanity like some good music. Here are five songs that have been getting me through the week. Some old, some new, but all very 2010 for me.

If Phoenix ditched their Parisian threads, put on some boardshorts, and spent some time cavorting on a sunny California beach they would sound like this cut from Generationals new EP.

Ambient Chillout Time

It’s crazy this time of year. Everyone is freaking out because Santa (or the family) is coming to town. If you aren’t caught up in the hoopla, no doubt someone very near to you is, and it is probably starting to stress you out. Time to light some candles, take a bath (when was the last time you did that?), stop thinking about the holidays and chill out.
