A couple weeks ago, leftfield house label, Circus Company, released the second full length from San Francisco-based producer, Dave Aju.
The concept behind Heirlooms is the remembrance of Aju’s late father, whose jazz recordings and instruments are sampled throughout and adapted to fit over a four-to-the-floor foundation. Heirlooms comes off as an especially expressive piece of work, as Aju covers a broad range of Aju’s influences aside from jazz, including funk, soul, and tech house on this ten track album.
You can catch Aju performing tracks from Heirlooms this Friday, May 18, at Bang the Box’s Colors for his record release party at 222 Hyde. Tyrel Williams and resident, Lance De Sardi, offer support. More information can be found here.
