Outside Lands: Day 1 Roundup

The 3-day event was a blast to explore on it’s first day. As if the killer lineup wasn’t enough, the foodcarts, vendors, Winelands, and a beautiful setting round out the true festival experience.

K.Flay opened the Twin Peaks stage with a great live performance including newly-introduced live percussion.

Collie Buddz on the main stage early started gathering the crowd with a great intro sans-drums and a Bob Marley tribute sing-along to “No Woman No Cry.”

The music playing between acts on the Sutro Stage was an amazing playlist that kept the crowd dancing including Magnetic Zeros and Brett Dennon’s hometown ode “San Francisco.”

The food was great – it’s as if there is a huge foodcart festival inside a music festival. Winelands is also a blast and has $3 tastings for more wineries than you can imagine. Note the ones with the larger pours.

Intel’s tent has fun DJs, keeps you out of the wind, and doesn’t have the lengthy line of the Heineken Dome. Also, check out the small stage in the Toyota tent nearby, a lot of artists from the festival are playing in there at various times and they have fun arts and crafts.

Ellie Goulding (pictured) rocked the Sutro Stage in the early evening with true fans loving the free star-shaped sunglasses, singing along non-stop, and Ellie rocking out on stage either drumming, playing the guitar, or dancing around on stage while singing.

You might have to really be into Phish to like their shows. With a 4-hour set on the main stage, standout moments were few and far between, if not absent.
